A Jamaican in Kobe - Part III

Rachel had worked all day and was ready to chow down. She got a little lost because I had botched some directions that I had sent to her. Luckily, the area we were in Adelle knew well. So eventually Adelle and Wendy's brought us together at last.

We went to Jamaicana the only Jamaican restaurant in Kobe. It was run by a Jamaican-Briton guy from Scheffield, who had travelled the world as a musician before settling in Kobe to start his restaurant of 27 years. I think our waitress was his Japanese wife.

Anyway, on to the food... We ordered an assortment of dishes, which we hastily consumed before we could take pictures. Before the food arrived, our friend Tai from Kobe showed up to join us. We originally met Tai in Canada as my parents were taking in exchange students on a home stay program. As chance would have it, he lived in Kobe which was one town over from Osaka, where we live. The funny thing about our relationship with Tai is that we met him, on yet, a third continent. He was on assignment for work in Portsmouth England when we did our Europe tour, which included London. So we jokingly asked him tonight which country we should go to next.

Okay, back to the food... really. These dishes we all shared and I think everyone enjoyed them thoroughly. We had Jerk Chicken, Fried Chicken, Goat Curry, Roast Pork and Fried fish. Two of these dishes included soup, salad and rice. The soup was a chicken based broth which tasted like home-made chicken soup, but very rich and tasty. The salad was a standard cabbage with dressing deal, and the rice was purple in colour with some beans. The best part of the meal I thought was the bread that came with the Jerk Chicken. It was slightly sweet in taste and was awesome. We all agreed to get an extra serving of bread as dessert to go with coffee.

In the End the cost was pretty cheap for the whole meal. The grand total came to 1680yen per person. As with all Japanese restaurants, we could have had more, but the taste was exceptional. The owner/cook/waitress were really friendly and great too.
